Chelsea have confirmed the signing of England international Ben Chilwell from Leicester in a deal thought to be worth around £50m.

The 23-year-old had another impressive Premier League campaign for the Foxes, making 27 appearances and scoring three goals and creating three assists.

The fee is undisclosed, but believed to be in the region of £50m, a massive discount on the £80m that was initially being reported as Leicester’s asking price.

Speaking following the announcement, Chilwell said: “I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season.”

The current options in Chilwell’s position – Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri – both disappointed consistently through last season, and left back was seen as a priority position to upgrade.

Chilwell on the other hand has been one of the league’s top performers, and will hope to take his game to the next level at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile either Alonso or Emerson will now likely move on as Chelsea look to recoup some of their significant summer outlay.

The Frank Lampard side finished fourth last season to qualify for the Champions League in his first campaign as manager. They begin the new season against Brighton Hove & Albion on Sept. 14.
