SEVILLA CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE EUROPA LEAGUE AFTER EDGING INTER MILAN IN THE FINAL.

The Belgian striker gave Inter a fifth-minute lead from the penalty spot – Diego Carlos brought him down – but Sevilla’s semi-final hero Luuk de Jong overturned the deficit with a brace of fine first-half headers.

Sevilla conceded a penalty after Diego Carlos had fouled Lukaku in the third minute.

The former Manchester United forward own goal delivered Sevilla a 3-2 victory.

Luuk de Jong scored twice in the 12th and 33rd minute for Sevilla, cancelling out Romelu Lukaku’s early goal from the spot for Inter Milan five minutes into the minute.

The Inter forward deflected Diego Carlos’ overhead kick into his own net for Sevilla’s winning goal in the 74th minute, after a game-long duel with the Brazilian defender.

The loss extended Inter’s wait for a first European trophy since Jose Mourinho led the Italian club to the Champions League title in 2010.

Sevilla claimed a record sixth Europa League triumph this century as Diego Carlos proved an unlikely hero in a thrilling 3-2 win over Inter in Cologne.
